Amazon.com Product Description
The DEWALT D55153 Hot Dog Compressor has all the power of a large compressor, but constructed as a smaller, lighter unit. It delivers 3.8 cubic feet per minute at 100 psi and is durably built with oil-lubricated cast-iron cylinder. Included with the Hot Dog Compressor is the regulator and an initial fill of DEWALT synthetic air compressor oil.

3 out of 5 stars Cautiously Optimistic   December 10, 2009
J. Gannon
First unit would not work-- froze up and blew the fuse each time I tried to use it. Good new was Amazon was SUPER FANTASTIC on replacing it. Second one has worked pretty well-- a couple of times I thought it was not going to start up but so far has worked. If it doesn't fail to start-- it is easy to use and works fine with my tools. Based on it being Dewalt I did have high expectations so I am cautiously optimistic that the first unit was a fluke and the second one will continue to work as expected.

5 out of 5 stars Great quality compressor   March 4, 2009

Bought this to use with my Dewalt framing nailer. Shipping was a little slow but I wasn't in a big hurry. When I got it, I followed the instructions and filled it up with oil. Flipped the on switch and noticed the oil was leaking all over the driveway. After further inspection I found the engine block was cracked at the mounting points to the compressor frame. From the looks of it, it seems that it was damaged during shipping. No biggie, went online to Amazon customer service and was able to get a replacement with ease. Sent the other one back (Amazon took care of all the shipping charges) and started the other one up. The new one worked great!

Compressor is great with my nailer. I don't have a single issue with it. Probably the only thing I would say is that it's quite heavy. Now, I know I'm no athlete but I found carrying this thing around to be a bit of a strain. The handle is positioned in the center of the unit (obviously for equal weight distribution) but becomes a problem when you can't really hold it out since it weighs 50 lbs. For those that may have problem lifting, I would recommend a similar model that has wheels (saw one at Sears the other day). Otherwise, I would recommend this compressor.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   January 4, 2009
Rick (Santa Monica, CA USA)
I bought this unit about 8 months ago. At the time, I had heard good things about this compressor. However, after working with it a bit, I am disappointed with this unit.

I agree with the design criticisms in the "Good compressor, poor design" review by "Crusty."

Also, consistent with the "Hard to start" review by "Wilton W. Wyman", I have had trouble starting this compressor in cold weather. I was working with a guy that had a Porter Cable pancake compressor and we were both working with and storing our compressors in the same cold, unheated location. His started up fine and mine had troubles (maybe because his was oil-free and this one uses oil, but still . . . ) The weather was cold but not too extreme so it was definitely working weather; I had not expected so many problems in the cold.

When I was shopping I looked at this one and the Makita MAC2400 13 Amp 2-1/2 Horsepower 4.2-Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor. I got this one to save $45 (big mistake). The Makita's probably a lot quieter than this unit, among other things.

When this one quits, I'll get the Makita.

2 out of 5 stars Good compressor, poor design   November 20, 2008

This compressor does the basics well - compress air. The issues that I have are in the design of the unit.

1. The bleed valve location is on the back of the unit next to the compressor motor, which makes it hard to access and there's burn potential for hands.

2. The pressure gauge is behind the carry handle so vision is obstructed.

3. The output pressure control valve is tight behind the carry handle.

4. The hose connection faces the compressor motor rather than the front.

It does the basics without complaint.
